Many users have successfully resolved the reported errors by flashing the unit to address the reported errors. To guide you through this process, please follow the instructions below, we have also included a Vimeo video link with a walk-through on how to perform the steps.
Requirements:
- Computer with 3.5GB of free space.
- 2GB or larger USB flash drive (3.1) for the flashing process.
For Windows:
- Download the Atari OS image from: see above.
- Download the USB boot creation app Rufus from Rufus.ie.
- Run Rufus and configure settings:
- Device: Select the USB device for use.
- Boot selection: Disk or ISO image > SELECT.
- Partition scheme: MBR.
- Target system: BIOS (or UEFI-CSM).
- Click on "SELECT" to choose the downloaded file (atari-flasher-ab-upgrade.img).
- Click "START" (current USB contents will be erased) to begin writing the new image to your USB drive.
For Mac:
- Download Etcher from balena.io/etcher.
- Download the Atari OS image from: see above.
- Launch Etcher and:
- Drag the image onto Etcher.
- Select USB.
- Click "START."
Updating the VCS from USB:
- If you have a video signal:
- Power off the VCS, connect it to a keyboard and insert the USB drive.
- Power on while holding ESC until the blue UEFI menu appears.
- Go to the boot manager, select USB, and choose "reflash VCS."
- If no video signal:
- Power off, plug in the USB drive, and power on.
- The VCS will update automatically (takes approximately 15 minutes).
- After 20 minutes, power cycle the VCS, and it should boot to the new OS.
